Abstract

"Cuti cuti" is a plant widely used in the Social Security of Health of Peru (EsSalud), so this research aimed to compare the reducing power of the aqueous, methanolic and hydroethanolic extracts of Notholaena nivea (Poir.) Dev. “cuti cuti” dispensed in EsSalud and compare them with the extracts of wild samples collected. Extracts of N. nivea in water, methanol, and ethanol (30, 50 and 96%) were prepared by ultrasound bath. The reducing power was evaluated using the DPPH, FRAP and ABTS methods. The values were expressed in mg Trolox equivalent/g of dry extract (mg TE/g DE). The samples of N. nivea from EsSalud showed values of 488.29 ± 4.92 - 89.29 ± 4.32 (DPPH), 161.69 ± 4.12 - 23.80 ± 0.97 (FRAP) and 444 .12 ± 12.28 - 62.42 ± 3.21 (ABTS) mg TE/g DE, while for N. nivea collected values of 269.80 ± 0.77 - 73.88 ± 1.63 (DPPH), 93.26 ± 4.21 - 9.78 ± 0.68 (FRAP) and 242.16 ± 1.95 - 28.51 ± 1.94 (ABTS) mg TE/g DE. In conclusion, the ethanol 30 % extract of N. nivea “cuti cuti” dispensed in EsSalud presented the best significant difference (p<0.05) in reducing power in the three methods.
