Abstract

Plants with cicatrizing activity are used since the beginning of civilizations for the treatment of wounds. The diversity of substances in extracts and oils allow a variety of mechanisms that can accelerate or improve the healing process, and are often more efficient than synthetics. The conference addresses different plant species of Latin American origin used for healing purposes, pharmaceutical forms based on products of these species and indications of use. Finally, the presentation includes the work done by the speaker about the wound healing activity of the brazilian endemic species Eugenia pruniformis, situated in the sandbank vegetation.
