Medicinal plants with commercial value from Iquitos, Perú

More than 1000 species of plant with medicinal properties are reported in the Peruvian Amazon. The focus of this study was to document the most consumed and commercialized plant species in Iquitos, Perú. Interviews were conducted with the people in charge of stalls selling medicinal plants of Pasaje Paquito, best-selling plant species were verified and corroborated. Data were taken of the common name, part of the plant used, type of ailment in which it is used and form of preparation. 38 species of medicinal plants with commercial value are reported, being cat's claw, blood grade, soursop and copaiba the most cited. With this data, we contribute information on plants that have a good market at regional, national and international levels, and that can serve as a proposal for the implementation of cultivation programs in the Loreto region, Peru.
